  • Jake Lynch defends claims of anti-Jewish racism by referring to Noam Chomsky's Sydney peace prize. Is that the best he can do?
Chomsky is a far-left academic with a penchant for relentless anti-US and anti-Israeli rantings.
    Royston Mitchell, Golden Grove, SA
It's funny watching ideologically hamstrung academics contradicting themselves and comically trying to argue their way out of it when their hypocrisy is pointed out.
    Lloyd Powell, Kalamunda, WA
Australia may have performed poorly against other nations in the international reading tests, but I bet we've got the best school halls.
    Col Douglas, Narangba, Qld
Attorney-General Nicola Roxon believes that consolidation of the anti-discrimination laws will remove complexities and difficulties. But I find it highly offensive that she considers I may be unable to handle "offensive" remarks without calling for support from her mooted legislation.

Look on the bright side. If the overhaul to discrimination laws succeeds, sceptical scientists will have the right to sue ABC Radio National for all the derogatory remarks its presenters make about us. Tony Abbott will have the right to sue the handbag hit-squad whenever they make their vile remarks about him.
    Art Raiche, Killara, NSW
Will carols by candlelight be going ahead this year, or has Nicola Roxon decided that non-Christians might find it offensive?
    Fabio Scalia, Windsor, Vic
I am offended by the proposed new legislation that makes it an offence to offend.
    P. J. Grant, Ipswich, Qld
Mac Bignell claims that ABC radio does not do pranks (Letters, 12/12). Perhaps, but ABC TV had the most effective pranksters of all, The Chaser.
    Mike Young, Swanbourne, WA
Peter Davson-Galle does not have an obligation to vote (Letters, 12/12). He has an obligation to register at a polling booth, no more than a disruption of a weekend. But he does not have to vote.
    Peter Lane, Margaret River, WA
I'm surprised that a committee had the know-how to come up with the camel, Andrew Porteous (Letters, 12/12). As someone once said, a committee is an animal with four back legs.
    Helen Jackson, Higgins, ACT
The camel is a unique and extremely successful design. It is impossible for it to have been designed by a committee.
    Russell Hall, Moorooka, Qld
